Fatima Ayllon Ayllon, a graduate student in the Temple University College of Public Health (CPH), is on a path to making a significant impact in health informatics. Originally from Mexico and raised in Chester County, Pennsylvania, Fatima was drawn to Temple for its diversity, urban setting, and strong academic reputation. "I always enjoyed being in an urban environment surrounded by many different people," she explains.
Fatima initially thought she wanted to pursue a career in social work but, after exploring different fields, she found her passion in health informatics. Building on her undergraduate degree in Health Information Management, she decided to deepen her expertise with a graduate degree in Health Informatics. "I truly enjoyed my undergraduate program, especially the technical classes like database management and data analytics," she shares.
One of Fatima’s most rewarding experiences at Temple has been mentoring her peers. "The most fulfilling part is witnessing their success," she says. "It fills my heart with joy to see them step out of their comfort zones and gain confidence."
Balancing her role as a Health Research Data Analyst and her studies has taught Fatima valuable lessons in time management and discipline. "It’s about understanding what truly matters and staying focused," she explains. One of her proudest achievements is her work on Temple's data governance project, where she has taken on a leadership role in managing and enhancing the university’s databases.
Looking ahead, Fatima has big plans. After graduation, she hopes to pursue a PhD in Health Informatics and take on a leadership role in the field. She is also passionate about advocating for women and immigrant healthcare, as she identifies with both groups, which face unique healthcare challenges.
Despite facing personal hardships, including the loss of her mother just before her freshman year, Fatima credits Temple University with becoming a second family. "Temple has supported my education and personal growth during these challenging years. My mom would be incredibly proud of how far I’ve come."
Outside of her academic and professional life, Fatima enjoys staying active through weight training, Pilates, running, and tennis, and cherishes time with friends and family.
Fatima's journey at CPH is one of resilience, passion, and a commitment to making a difference in public health.
